On the second part of the 28th Session of the International Seabed Authority
From June 28 to July 28, 2023, the second part of the 28th session of the International Seabed Authority (#ISA) took place in Kingston, Jamaica, attended by the Russian interdepartmental delegation headed by H.E. Ambassador Sergey Petrovich, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the ISA.
The main agenda item was the continuation of work on the draft Regulations on exploitation of mineral resources in the International Seabed Area, taking into account the necessity to achieve a balance between the economically feasible deep sea mining and ensuring the appropriate level of protection of the marine environment. Following the ISA Council meeting, it was decided to continue working on the draft Regulations with a view to adopt them during the 30th session of the Authority, scheduled for 2025.
